The 2011 Cougars became the third team in school history to win 11 games in a season... No team in school history has won more than 11.
The Cougars set a new Robertson Stadium attendance record with 32,207 fans... The previous record was set on September 10, 2010 against UTEP and also on September 4, 2010 vs. Texas State when 32,119 people attended each of those games.
The 2011 Cougars are the seventh team in school history to win 10 plus games in a season... They join the 2009 (10-4), 2006 (10-4), 1990 (10-1), 1979 (11-1), 1976 (10-2) and 1973 (11-1) squads as the only teams to reach this milestone.
The Cougars became the first team in school history to start the season 11-0 and lead the nation with their victory total... Two teams (1990, 1979) won their first eight games to open a season before suffering a loss in the ninth contest.
Houston is 7-0 in conference play for only the second time in program history... The Cougars opened 7-0 in 1990... The 1978 Cougars opened 6-0, but fell in league-game number seven.
Houston's 11-game winning streak is the second-longest streak in school history... It trails only the 12 consecutive wins from 1989-90... However, the current streak is the longest in-season streak in school history.
Houston showed great discipline in the first half, not being called for a penalty... UH played the first three quarters of the game being called for just one penalty and finished the game with two penalties for just 11 yards.
Head coach Kevin Sumlin is the winningest head coach over his first three plus seasons at Houston... He is now 34-16 all-time... Sumlin is 4-0 all-time vs. SMU and improved to 4-0 vs. opponents from the state of Texas in 2011.
Kevin Sumlin improved to 8-0 when coaching a ranked team at Robertson Stadium... Houston has also won 21 consecutive games at home as a ranked team, a streak that dates back to 1980.
Houston finished the regular season undefeated at Robertson Stadium for the third time in four seasons under Kevin Sumlin.
Sumlin and Bill Yeoman are the only head coaches in school history to lead the Cougars to multiple 10-win seasons during their careers... This is the second time in four seasons (2009) that Sumlin has led the Cougars to 10 or more wins... Yeoman led the Cougars to four 10-win seasons from 1962-86.
QUARTERBACK Case Keenum
Keenum has topped 300 yards in 11 consecutive games this season (each game so far)... Keenum also recorded his 36th career 300-yard game, tying him for the most all-time in NCAA history with former Hawaii Standout Timmy Chang.
With his 318 yards Keenum surpassed 4,000 yards for the third time in his career... He became just the second player in NCAA history to top 4,000 yards in three separate seasons over a career... Keenum joined Chang as the only other player to accomplish that feat... No player has topped 5,000 yards passing three times in a career, but Keenum is just 731 yards shy of becoming the first.
With 6:38 to play in the first quarter Keenum completed his 1,404th career pass, breaking former Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell's record for most career pass completions in NCAA History... Keenum finished with 30 completions in the game, to bring his career total to 1,427.
Keenum now has 38 TD passes this season... His touchdown-to-interception ratio is an incredible 38-to-3 in 2011... Keenum leads the country in throwing scores and is already fifth in single-season history at UH.
Keenum has an NCAA-record 18,771 yards of total offense (17,855 pass, 916 rush) during his career.
Keenum pushed his NCAA career record to 145 touchdown passes with his touchdown completion to Justin Johnson... After he added a rushing touchdown late in the game, Keenum has now accounted for 168 career TDs.
Keenum improved to 35-13 all-time as the Cougars' starting quarterback... He owns the school record with for wins.
Saturday's contest marked the 11th straight game that the Cougars have scored at least 35 points.
Senior wide receiver Tyron Carrier recorded a reception in his nation-leading 50th consecutive game, every game of his collegiate career... With his catch in the first quarter Carrier tied the UH career record set by Vincent Marshall (2003-06).
Carrier boosted his Houston career receptions record to 298.
Senior quarterback Cotton Turner found sophomore Gino Collins' on a 43-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter for Turner's fifth passing score of the season and Collin's first touchdown catch of his career.
Turner's touchdown pass marked consecutive weeks in which he has hooked up for his receiver's first career touchdown reception... Chance Blackmon caught his first last week against Tulane.
With his 36-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, Michael Hayes now has eight rushing touchdowns on the year to go along with his four receiving touchdowns.
With his touchdown Hayes now has a score in nine of his 10 games played (he did not play versus Tulane)... His lone game without a touchdown came at home against Rice.
Edwards recorded a reception in his 45th consecutive game.
With his three sacks against SMU Sammy Brown now has 12.5 sacks on the season, good for fourth most in single season history. He entered today's game ranked No. 6 nationally in sacks... Brown now has 20 for his career at UH, which ranks eighth all time.
Thomas Bates recorded his first sack of the season midway through the fourth quarter... Bates also added six tackles to go along with his sack.
The Cougars forced their second turnover of the game on D.J. Hayden's second forced fumbled on the season.
The Cougars held SMU to just 5-15 on third down for 33.3%... Houston opponents are 64-171 on third down for this season for 37.4%.
The 263 total yards of offense is the fewest this season against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent... The Cougars allowed just 241 against FCS Georgia State.
Houston allowed just 24 rushing yards against SMU... That is the second lowest total after they held ECU to 21 yards.
With his four extra points in the game, Hogan passed former Louisville kicker Art Carmody (2004) for the career record for consecutive extra points in a season with 78.
