GENERAL GAME NOTES
« With Saturday's win, Houston claimed its third Conference USA West Division title ... Houston will be hosting the C-USA Championship Game next week vs. either Southern Miss or Marshall.
« Tickets for that game will be on sale Friday evening at UHCougars.com and on sale at the Athletics Ticket Office at 10 a.m., Saturday.
« Head Coach Kevin Sumlin improved to 3-1 vs. Tulsa, including an outstanding 2-0 mark in Tulsa.
« Sumlin moved into sole possession of third place in Houston career history with his 35th career victory... He moved out of a tie with Art Briles (2003-06)... Up next in the Houston records book is Clyde Lee, who recorded 37 wins from 1948 to 1954.
« Houston earned its 12th win on the season, which is a school record ... The 12-game winning streak also equaled the school's longest winning streak.
« With Friday's win, the Cougars set a school single-season record... The 2011 Cougars topped the previous record of 11 wins in 1979 and 1973.
« The 2011 Cougars are the seventh team in school history to win 10+ games in a season... They join the 2009 (10-4), 2006 (10-4), 1990 (10-1), 1979 (11-1), 1976 (10-2) and 1973 (11-1) squads as the only teams to reach this milestone.
« The Cougars became the first team in school history to start the season 12-0 and lead the nation with their victory total... Only two teams (1990, 1979) won their first eight games to open a season before suffering a loss in the ninth contest.
« Houston improved to 3-0 in Senior Day games this season ... UH won last week at home vs. SMU but also won road games at Tulsa and at Tulane.
« The Cougars improved to 8-0 in Conference USA play for the first time in school history.
« This was Houston's fourth non-Saturday game of the season... Houston is 41-29-1 all-time when playing in non-Saturday games... The Cougars are now 23-11 when playing on Fridays.
« Houston has scored at least 35 points in 12-straight games ... Houston is also the first team in C-USA history to twice top 70 points in the same season vs. a league foe (73 vs. both Tulane and Rice).
« In 2011, Houston has posted 45 scoring drives of six plays or less ... In addition, Houston has recorded 50 scoring drives lasting two minutes or less.
« Keenum has 18 career 400-yard games and 37 games of 300+ yards, an NCAA record for 300-yard passing days ... He recently passed former Hawaii' quarterbackTimmy Chang (36) for the most career 300-yard games.
« Keenum has topped 300 yards passing in every game this season.
« Keenum owns the NCAA record for touchdowns responsible for (currently 173) and career points responsible for (currently 1,038).
« Keenum added to his school record total with 36 career wins as a starter. He passed former UH great Kevin Kolb earlier this year ... Friday's game was Keenum's 49th career start.
« Senior wide receiver Tyron Carrier became the Conference USA leader in career receptions ... Carrier now has 307 career receptions... He passed former Louisville WR Arnold Jackson, who had 300 grabs from 1997-2000).
« With 307 career receptions, Carrier is nine catches behind former Purdue standout Taylor Stubblefield (316) for second on the NCAA's career receptions list.
« Carrier broke the school record for a reception in his 51st consecutive game ... That streak is the longest in the nation.
« Senior wide receiver Patrick Edwards caught four TD grabs and has 18 on the season ... He is the national leader, just ahead of Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon (15).
« It was Edwards' third game this season with 3+ TDs ... He had five TD grabs vs. Rice, three TD grabs and a punt return score at Tulane and three TDs at Tulsa ... His 18 TD grabs rank No. 2 in school history, trailing only Manny Hazard who had 22 scoring grabs in 1989.
« Edwards has 41 career TD grabs, which adds to his school record and is No. 2 all-time in C-USA history.
« Edwards made eight grabs for 181 yards and is Conference USA's career receiving yardage leader ... He passed former Rice Owl Jarett Dillard ... Edwards now has 4,251 career yards receiving.
« Edwards finished the game with eight catches and is now No. 2 all-time in school history, trailing only Carrier ... Edwards now has 274 career receptions.
« Edwards now has 16 career 100-yard receiving games to set a school record ... He passed Vincent Marshall (15) ... The 16 career 100-yard days is tied for the Conference USA record.
« Edwards made a receptions in his 46th consecutive game at Tulsa.
« Sims has 13 total scores this year, including nine TD runs ... He has scored at least one TD in seven of his last eight games, with three scores coming at UTEP and two more vs. East Carolina.
« Hayes is tied for the team lead with nine rushing scores, which included his fourth-quarter plunge to seal the win ... Hayes has 13 total TDs in 2011 with his four receiving touchdowns.
« Hayes has scored at least one TD in 10 of his last 11 games this year, including three games with multiple TDs ... He had two rushing scores vs. UCLA and one rushing TD and one receiving TD at North Texas before his two TD catches vs. Marshall.
« Senior wide receiver Justin Johnson set a career high for receiving yardage with 106 yards and a score ... Johnson had topped 90 yards passing in the three previous games but finally topped the century mark in Friday's win.
« Johnson has a career high nine TD snags this season and has five TD receptions over his last six games.
« Senior linebacker Marcus McGraw continues to work his way up the UH career tackles chart ... He finished with 489 and trails only Ryan McCoy's (1990-93) 507 career stops ... McGraw also had three stops behind the line of scrimmage.
« Defensive back DJ Hayden had an outstanding day for UH ... The junior standout forced his third fumble of the season and recovered his second in the win.
« Houston held Tulsa to its lowest home field scoring total of 2011 ... The Golden Hurricane scored 33 points vs. Oklahoma State at home back on Sept. 17 ... TU's overall season low for scoring was 14 in the second-opener at Oklahoma.
« Houston made impressive second-half adjustments on defense and is allowing just 8.8 points per game in the second half this season, including Friday's fourth-quarter shutout.
« In the fourth quarter that number gets even more impressive ... The UH "D" is allowing just 3.3 fourth-quarter points per game and hasn't allowed a team to score more than seven points in the fourth period of any game this year ... Over the last 10 games UH has allowed just 28 total fourth-quarter points.
