    TEAM NOTES
    ** Friday's attendance of 31,818 was the largest crowd in the history of Robertson Stadium... It topped the previous best of 31,784, set against Texas on Sept. 22, 2001, and against Rice on Sept. 4, 1999.

    ** Friday's 2006 Conference USA Championship Game presented by Aéropostale was the first championship event held at Robertson Stadium/Jeppesen Stadium since the Dallas Texans defeated the Houston Oilers 20-17 in double overtime in the 1962 AFL Championship Game.

    ** With Friday's win, the Cougars won the 2006 Conference USA Championship for the second time in school history... UH won the 1996 C-USA Championship during the Cougars' first year in the league.

    ** With Friday's win, the Cougars advanced to the Liberty Bowl at 3:30 p.m., Dec. 29... This will be the second time in school history (1996) that the Cougars will play in the Liberty Bowl.

    ** With Friday's win, the Cougars improved to 10-3 overall in 2006 and will advance to the 2006 Liberty Bowl at 3:30 p.m., Dec. 29, against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference... This marks the third time in the last four years that the Cougars will compete in a bowl game... It will mark the first time that UH has appeared in three bowls in four years since the 1978-81 Cougar teams competed in four straight bowl games (1978 Cotton; 1979 Cotton; 1980 Garden State and 1981 Sun).

    ** With Friday's win, the Cougars recorded their 10th victory in 2006... It marks the most wins for the Cougars since the 1990 team posted a 10-1 record.

    ** With Friday's win, the Cougars won their sixth straight game of the 2006 season... It was the first time since the 1990 team opened the season with eight straight wins that the Cougars recorded a five-game winning streak.

    ** Houston improved to 4-7 (.364) all-time against Southern Miss... The Cougars avenged a 31-27 loss at Southern Miss on Oct. 14, 2006... Friday's win was the Cougars' second win in their last nine meetings against the Golden Eagles.

    ** Houston improved to 23-9-1 (.712) all-time during the month of December.

    ** Houston improved to 15-28 (.349) all-time against teams from the state of Mississippi.

    ** Houston improved to 81-65-1 (.554) all-time against current Conference USA teams.

    ** Houston improved to 7-1(.875) all-time when playing on Dec. 1.

    ** The Cougars have allowed only 56 combined points in the second half during their 10 wins.

    INDIVIDUAL NOTES
    ** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb made the 49th consecutive start of his career... With that total, he added to his UH record total for the most consecutive starts by a quarterback in UH history... His streak also set a UH record, topping the previous mark of 48 consecutive games by Kade Lane (2002-05).

    ** With 49 career starts, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into a tie for fourth place in NCAA Division I-A history with Syracuse's Donovan McNabb, who started 49 games from 1995-98... Up next in the NCAA records book is are Marshall's Chad Pennington (1995-99) and North Carolina State's Philip Rivers (2000-03), who each started 49 games during their careers.

    ** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb's 46-yard touchdown run at the 9:41 mark of the third quarter was the longest run of his career... It topped his previous long of 43 yards set at TCU on Oct. 23, 2004... It also was the 21st career rushing touchdown of Kolb's career.

    ** With two touchdown passes, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded his 10th game in 2006 with multi-TD passes and the 27th multi-touchdown game of his career.

    ** With two touchdown passes, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into second place in C-USA career history with 82 career touchdown passes... Up next in the UH records book is former Louisville quarterback Chris Redman who threw 84 touchdowns from 1996 to 1999.

    ** With 258 passing yards, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Louisville quarterback Chris Redman and set a Conference USA career record with 12,578 career passing yards... Redman threw for 12,320 passing yards from 1996 to 1999.

    ** With 315 yards of total offense (258 pass, 57 rush), senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Missouri's Brad Smith into fourth place in NCAA career history with 13,334 yards (756 rush, 12,578 pass) of total offense... Up next in the NCAA records book is North Carolina State quarterback Philip Rivers who accounted for 13,582 yards of total offense (98 rush, 13,484 pass) from 2000 to 2003.

    ** With 258 passing yards, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into sixth place in NCAA career history with 12,578 passing yards... Up next in the NCAA records book is Louisiana Tech quarterback Luke McCown who accounted for 12,666 passing yards from 2000 to 2003.

    ** With his catch on the Cougars' opening drive, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a pass in his 49th consecutive game... He added to his UH record, topping the previous best of 43 straight games by wide receiver Orlando Iglesias (1997-01).

    ** With 100 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded his second 100-yard receiving game of the 2006 season and the 14th of his career... The Cougars improved to 7-7 (.500) all-time during games in which Marshall records at least 100 receiving yards.

    ** With his 22-yard touchdown run at the 2:54 mark of the first quarter, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into a tie with Kimble Anders (1985-89) for seventh place in UH career history with 27 career touchdowns... Up next in the UH records book is Gene Shannon, who scored 28 touchdowns from 1949-51.

    ** With eight receptions, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into a tie for 12th place in NCAA career history with New Mexico's Terance Mathis with 263 receptions... Up next in the NCAA records book is Louisiana Tech's Chad Mackey who caught 264 passes from 1985-89.

    ** With 100 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into 25th place in NCAA career history with 3,569 receiving yards... Up next in the NCAA records book is San Diego State's J.R. Tolver, who recorded 3,572 career receiving yards from 1999 to 2002.

    ** Wide receiver Vincent Marshall's 18-yard pass to Jeron Harvey on the Cougars' final drive of the first half was the first pass attempt of his career.

    ** With his 6-yard touchdown run at 10:01 of the second quarter, senior running back Jackie Battle set a UH career record with the 29th rushing touchdown of his career... Battle broke out of a tie with Ketric Sanford, who rushed for 28 touchdowns from 1996 to 1999.

    ** With his 6-yard touchdown run at 10:01 of the second quarter, senior running back Jackie Battle moved into a tie for second place with Paul Gipson (1968) in UH single-season history with 13 rushing touchdowns this season... Up next in the UH records book is Antowain Smith, who set a UH record with 14 rushing touchdowns in 1996.

    ** With his 6-yard touchdown run at 10:01 of the second quarter, senior running back Jackie Battle moved into a tie for eighth place with Chuck Weatherspoon (1990 and 1989), Gene Shannon (1951) and Joffrey Reynolds (2002) in UH single-season history with 13 touchdowns scored in 2006.

    ** With 100 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded the 14th 100-yard receiving game of his career... That total tied the school career record, first set by Manny Hazard from 1989 to 1990.

    ** With two touchdown receptions, senior wide receiver Biren Ealy recorded the first multi-touchdown game of his career (both at Arizona and at Houston).

    ** Senior running back Roshawn Pope competed in the 50th game of his collegiate career to add to his UH-record total... Larry Shepherd (1981-85) and Kade Lane (2002-05) each played in 48 consecutive games during their respective careers.

    ** For the first time in the Cougars' last six games, sophomore kicker Ben Bell did not record at least one field goal in the game.
