Big East Finalizes Conference Football Opponents

HOUSTON -The Big East Conference announced Friday conference opponents and home/away designations for the 2013 football season. Dates and times will be released at a later date. In its first season in the Big East, Houston will welcome Memphis, Cincinnati, SMU and USF to the nation's fourth-largest city while traveling to Louisville, Temple, UCF and Rutgers. In non-conference action, Houston will host BYU and Southern, travel to UTSA and face crosstown rival Rice for the Bayou Bucket at Reliant Stadium. Houston will play in three of the nation's seven-largest cities in Houston, Philadelphia (Temple) and San Antonio (UTSA) while playing within 40 miles of America's largest city, New York City, when it visits Rutgers. Houston owns a combined record of 51-38-1 against seven of its eight 2013 Big East opponents. Houston owns winning records against Memphis (11-9), Cincinnati (13-8), SMU (17-10-1) and Temple (2-0). The Cougars are 7-7 against Louisville, 0-2 vs. USF and 1-2 vs. UCF. The Cougars have never faced Rutgers. In non-conference action, it will be a first-time Cougar battle as BYU and Houston have never faced each other while UH's trip to San Antonio will also mark the first time the two teams have faced off. Houston defeated Southern, 55-3, in the only previous meeting between the two teams on August 30, 2008. The Cougars own a record of 18-9-1 against Rice including wins in the last seven meetings.
