Houston, Texas - Former University of Houston Football standouts Bryce Beall and Chris Thompson will participate in this weekend's AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. The inaugural event will be played at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and will kickoff at 1 p.m. CT.
The two teams (American and National) will be coached by Super Bowl-winning sideline bosses Tom Flores and Dick Vermeil. Both Beall and Thompson were selected to the National Team and will be coached by Vermeil, as well as several of his former players, including Isaac Bruce, Eric Hicks, Priest Holmes and Will Shields.
The contest will be televised live on NBC Sport Network (formerly Versus).
Beall finished his UH career as one of the school's all-time leaders in rushing and scoring. He rushed for 3,098 yards in his career (third in school history), despite having an injury slow his senior season. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry over his tenure (10th all-time) and his 39 career rushing TDs is tops at UH. Beall's 46 total touchdowns also pace the UH annals.
Thompson finished his career by winning Conference USA honors as both a center and a guard. The Hitchcock, Texas, native was a First Team All-C-USA center in 2011 and was a first team pick at guard in 2010. Thompson also made the offensive line calls for the nation's top offense this season, as the UH offense averaged 599.1 yards per game and scored a national-best 49.3 points per contest.
