HOUSTON – The University Houston’s Bayou Bucket rivalry with crosstown rival Rice will return to Reliant Stadium for the second straight season and will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, it was announced today.  The game will once again be televised nationally on FOX Sports Network.

The game is one of three non-conference dates set as Houston will travel to San Antonio to face UTSA on Sept. 28 and will host BYU on Oct. 19.

Houston extended its lead in the series to 28-11 last season with a 35-14 win in front of 32,718 fans. The Cougars used three touchdowns from running back Charles Sims to capture the Bucket, presented annually by the Touchdown Club of Houston to the winning school, and open a three-game winning streak in the middle of its season. Houston returns 15 of 22 starters from the 2012 edition of the rivalry.

2012 Bayou Bucket

The 2012 game was the first neutral-site game since 2004, when the teams opened the season against one another at Reliant Stadium. The series has been played annually since 1971 aside from a three-year hiatus from 1996-98.

Ticket information for the game will be released at a later date.
