HOUSTON - One day after National Signing Day, the Houston Football program announced it will host walk-on tryouts during the spring semester for current University of Houston students.A critical part of any college football program, Houston's walk-on program has seen 17 walk-ons earn scholarships over the last five years including current Detroit Lion Patrick Edwards.

Students must attend a 4 p.m. NCAA compliance meeting on Monday, Feb. 11th, in order to participate in tryout.  The meeting will be held in the Carl Lewis Auditorium of the Athletics Alumni Center located at 3100 Cullen Blvd.

Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours to be eligible for participation and in good academic standing.  In addition, students must have a valid sports physical (not more than one year old) and be able to provide proof of health insurance.

Date of the actual try-out will be announce during the meeting.

Over the last year, five former walk-ons have received scholarships from the Houston program. Ameen Behbahani, Chris Cermin, Crawford Jones and Braxton Welford all received scholarships on the day of Houston's 2012 season opener while Shane Ros received one in January after finishing the 2012 season with 23 receptions for 337 yards and three touchdowns.
