HOUSTON – The 2017 Houston Football schedule was released Thursday as The American Athletic Conference announced dates for its members' conference showdowns. Two Houston home games – Memphis and Navy – have already been selected for national broadcasts on ESPN or ABC.

The #HTownTakeover opens the season with its four non-conference games, going on the road the first two weeks of the season to San Antonio to face UTSA on Sept. 2, and to Tucson, Ariz., to face Arizona on Sept. 9. TDECU Stadium will see its first action of 2017 on Sept. 16 when crosstown rival Rice faces Houston for the Bayou Bucket, the first of back-to-back home games as the Cougars host Texas Tech on Sept. 23.
Following its non-conference schedule, Houston’s conference slate opens on Sept. 30 when the Cougars travel to Philadelphia to face defending American champion Temple. The Lone Star State Showdown returns to Houston this season as the Cougars host SMU on Oct. 7 before traveling to Tulsa on Oct. 14.
The city of Houston returns to the national spotlight on Thursday, Oct. 19, as Houston faces Memphis in a game that will air on ESPN. The Cougars host their second straight game on Oct. 28 as ECU returns to Houston for the first time since 2011.
UH opens up the month of November in Tampa, Fla., facing USF on Nov. 4 before traveling to New Orleans on Nov. 18 to take on Tulane.
Houston closes out the regular season with a national TV broadcast on ABC or ESPN against The American’s defending west champion Navy, on Friday, Nov. 24. The American’s third conference championship game is slated for Saturday, Dec. 2, and will pit the winner of the West Division against the winner of the East Division at the home site of the top division winner on either ABC or ESPN.
Kickoff times for the first three weeks of the season are typically determined by mid-June. For games past the first three weeks of the season, kickoff times will be set by conference TV partners 12 days out, or in limited instances, six days out.
