Houston Spring Football Opens March 3
HOUSTON - The University of Houston Football Program announced its 2014 spring practice schedule Monday with six of the 15 sessions open to the public. Practice opens Monday, March 3, and the Cougars will hold their annual spring game at 6 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Carl Lewis Field. Full details surrounding the April 11 spring game will be announced in the near future.
Six of the 15 sessions will be open to the public capped by the April 11 spring game. The first opportunity for fans to see the 2014 Cougars will occur on Friday, March 21, with the first open scrimmage on Saturday, March 22.
Fans will have three opportunities the following week with open workouts on Wednesday, March 26; Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29, before the April 11 spring game. The 2014 Houston Football Spring Game will be a part of the Spring Fling which also includes Houston Baseball's series opener vs. Louisville. Tickets that include general admission to both games are just $5 prior to the day of the event and $10 on the day of the event. Full details can be found here.
All weekday practices will run from approximately 4:30-6:30 p.m. while the two Saturday sessions will run from approximately 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. All dates, times and public access decisions are subject to change, and fans are encouraged to check with UHCougars.com for updates regarding practice date and time changes.
Spring practices will be held at the Houston Football practice fields and Carl Lewis Field located behind the Athletics/Alumni Center at 3100 Cullen Blvd. Entrance to the field can be gained via the gate located on the southeast corner of Carl Lewis Field, between the Athletics/Alumni Center and Hofheinz Pavilion.
Fans attending practices are asked to remain outside the fields' boundary lines and are asked to refrain from cellphone usage during practice. The area between the two practice fields will be limited to team personnel and media only.
Houston will hold its annual NFL Pro Day at 8 a.m., Monday, March 17, inside the Athletics/Alumni Center for the program's NFL-eligible prospects. The event is closed to the public.
Houston returns 94 percent of its 1,807 rushing yards from 2012, 94 percent of its 3,647 passing yards and 80.6 percent of his 3,647 receiving yards. Defensively, 86.5 percent of its 1,048 tackles return including 98.7 percent of its 78 tackles for loss and all 31 sacks from 2012.
