HOUSTON - The Houston Football program announced it will host walk-on tryouts during the spring semester for current University of Houston students. A critical part of any college football program, Houston's walk-on program has seen 18 walk-ons earn scholarships over the last six years including current Detroit Lion Patrick Edwards.
Students must attend a 9 a.m. NCAA compliance meeting on Friday, Feb. 28, in order to participate in the tryout. The meeting will be held in the Carl Lewis Auditorium of the Athletics Alumni Center located at 3100 Cullen Blvd.
Interested participants must be a full-time student at the University of Houston and enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours for the spring of 2014. Good academic standing and no classes after 2:30 p.m. are also required.
Over the last two years, six former walk-ons have received scholarships from the Houston program. Ameen Behbahani, Chris Cermin, Crawford Jones and Braxton Welford all received scholarships on the day of Houston's 2012 season opener while Shane Ros and Nolan Frese each earned scholarships in 2013.
