"It was a good first day," commented Dimel. "The attitude is great. Each individual player knows that he must get better between March 28 and April 21 (the last day of spring practice.)
"We were able to get a lot of work on this first day. This time last year we were just trying to line people up in the right formations. This year we now understand what is going on and what we need to accomplish."
One of Dimel's biggest question marks with the commencement of spring ball is the Cougar quarterback situation, where Dimel must replace the departed Jason McKinley. Junior Kelly Robertson, a former walk on, and senior Alvin Lee, a converted defensive back, handled the signal-calling chores, and Dimel enjoyed what he saw.
"I was extremely pleased with our quarterbacks," added Dimel. "Both looked sharp and comfortable running the offense. Over the next few weeks we will try to find the niche of each of these players and how effectively they will work within our offensive system."
The Cougars continue the spring drills on Friday afternoon
p.m. on the UH Practice Fields, barring bad weather.
