April 2, 2011

Scrimmage #2

The University of Houston football team got in over 100 plays in just one hour and eight minutes in front of approximately 300 fans Saturday morning at Carl Lewis Field.

The defense came up big on Saturday stopping the offense in regular drive situations. They were called for five sacks, made by George Bamfo, Sammy Brown, Efrem Oliphant, Nathan Ramirez and Austin Wilson. There were two interceptions in the scrimmage both made by junior corner Jeffery Lewis.

The offense was perfect in red zone and goal line scoring with touchdown runs by Michael Hayes and Justin Johnson and a 22-yard field goal made by Matt Hogan.

Sixteen different players caught passes in the scrimmage totaling 30 receptions. Leading the way with four catches was redshirt-freshman DeAndre Perry, followed by senior Tyron Carrier and sophomores Kenneth Bibbins and Darian Lazard with three each.

The offense saw three quarterbacks with sophomore David Piland completing 14 passes at 54 percent, while senior Cotton Turner had 13 completions and junior Crawford Jones with three.
