Cougars Conclude Practice, Set Sights On Final Scrimmage
April 4, 2003 Houston, Texas - With a light workout in shorts and helmets, the University of Houston football team brought to a close the final weekly spring practice on the UH practice fields behind the Athletics/Alumni Center. The Cougars will conclude their first spring practice under new head coach Art Briles tomorrow morning at 10 am in the annual Red-White Game at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. After efficiently run and concise four weeks of practice, Briles is ready to see what his team's hard work culminates in tomorrow. "I want to see our guys pick it up a level," commented Briles, "which I think we'll see in a more live atmosphere (and) getting into the stadium. We want to be intense, but I also want to be intelligent. "We want to make intelligent plays on both sides of the ball. We don't want to do anything that would hurt our team if we were in a real game situation, as far as penalties. "We'll be looking at that aspect of it, the discipline part of it, and hopefully we'll see some good things." The Cougars will take the rest of the month of April and May to concentrate on academics, with fall practice set to start unofficially the second week of August. Houston kicks off the 2003 season, when it plays host to archrival Rice on Saturday, August 30, in the annual Administaff Bayou Bucket.
