HOUSTON – Houston sophomore quarterback John O’Korn has been selected as a staff member for this summer’s Manning Passing Academy run by legendary NFL and Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning and his sons Cooper, Peyton and Eli.

The camp, which is held on the campus of Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, La., runs from Thursday, July 10, to Sunday, July 13.

O’Korn led all true freshmen in 2013 with 28 passing touchdowns and was second in The American, regardless of class, behind the 31 touchdowns from Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater.

“I am honored to be selected as a counselor for the Manning Passing Academy. The Manning Family has great history in the game of football at the college and NFL levels. I look forward to being able to learn from the Mannings and my fellow counselors while hopefully imparting my knowledge on the event’s campers,” said O’Korn.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native set Houston freshman passing records with his 28 touchdowns and 259 completions and was just 14 yards shy of the UH freshman passing yards record set by Kevin Kolb in 2003.

O’Korn took over as the Cougars’ starting quarterback in the third game of the season and finished the year with at least three touchdowns in six games and over 300 yards in three games.

O’Korn and his Houston teammates close out spring practice with their annual spring game this Friday at 6 p.m. Friday’s game is a part of Houston’s Spring Fling which includes No. 7 Houston Baseball vs. No. 10 Louisville at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event, which include general admission seating to both events, are just $5 until Friday when prices increase to $10.
