Another Honor For Houston's Briles

May 17, 2007

Dallas, Texas - The magical 2006 season continues to reap rewards for the University of Houston, as head coach Art Briles was honored tonight in Dallas by the All-American Football Foundation.

Briles was one of five coaches who picked up the prestigious Johnny Vaught Head Coach Award. Briles led the Cougars to a 10-4 record this past season, capturing the Conference USA Championship and a berth in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. Last fall, Briles was named the 2006 Conference USA Coach of the Year, and later picked up the SportExe Division IA National Coach of the Year hardware.

Joining Briles as Vaught honorees were Clint Conque of the University of Central Arkansas, Sam Houston State's Todd Whitten, Northwestern State's Scott Stoker and the late Eddie Robinson of Grambling State.

The 85th "Banquet of Champions" was held at the Hyatt Regency Reunion Hotel in Dallas.
