May 21, 2008
Kevin Sumlin, head football coach at the University of Houston, and his staff will play host to Cougar Football 101 For Women, presented by State Farm on June 18 at the Athletics/Alumni Center on the UH campus. The inaugural event, geared towards UH's female fans, will provide participants with several interactive learning opportunities and on-field demonstrations designed to make the female fans of the Cougars the most football savvy in the country. "We are looking forward to this event and we hope to have all of our female cougar fans in attendance," Sumlin said. "This will be a great opportunity to learn basic football principles from our coaches and should be a great way to get ready for football season." Coach Sumlin and the staff will guide participants through offensive and defensive strategy, teach the rules of the game and give the participants a chance to take part in actual football drills. The program will also cover strength and conditioning, sports medicine and team apparel and equipment. The event will be interactive and participants will have a chance to win several prizes. "State Farm is excited about sponsoring this football clinic for women on June 18th," Rita Howard, Vice President for Agency - Greater Houston Area said. "It is a great way for us to support the University of Houston, our new coach and his staff and our new University President. We hope female football fans from all over the Houston area will join us for this fun event." Dinner will be available from 6-6:30 p.m. with the program beginning promptly at 6:30. The early registration fee to attend Cougar Football 101 is $25. After June 16, the registration cost is $40. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to attend.
