Houston, Texas - For the third consecutive season, University of Houston quarterback Kevin Kolb was named by the Maxwell Football Club to its 70th annual Maxwell Award Watch List, as it was announced today by Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski.
The respective watch lists include a field of sixty candidates for each of these awards as selected by the Maxwell Football Club Advisory Committee. Additions and subtractions to the lists, based on player performance, will be made through out the 2006 football season.
Kolb enters his senior season this fall as one of the nation's top offensive stars. Kolb has started 36 straight games, which is number one in the nation among Division I-A quarterbacks. A preseason selection by The Sporting News as its Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, Kolb enters the 2006 season with 9,155 passing yards as well as 9,752 yards of total offense, numbers that rank him No. 1 among active career leaders.
Kolb passed for a career-best 3,258 yards last season en route to being selected Third Team, All-Conference USA. In 2005, Kolb passed David Klingler as the school's all-time leader in total offense and is on the verge of owning all the UH passing/total offense numbers.
Twelve semi-finalists for each award will be announced in October 2006 and the field will trim to three finalists in November 2006. The winner of the Maxwell Award will be announced at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN in December 2006. The formal presentation of the Maxwell Award will take place at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Banquet in March 2007.
