Kickoff Times Announced for UCF and Grambling State Contests
June 19, 2014
HOUSTON -The American Athletic Conference, in conjunction with its TV partners, ESPN and CBS Sports, announced kickoff times for 22 American games Thursday, including two University of Houston home games.
Houston will face 2014 Fiesta Bowl champion UCF in an ESPN nationally-televised showdown at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Houston Football Stadium, while hosting Grambling State at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, in a game aired on ESPN3.
"With UCF the first American game in the Houston Football Stadium and on national TV, we need all our fans to start making their plans for Oct. 2 now," Houston senior wide receiver Daniel Spencer said. "We need to show the nation our fans will fill our stadium full of red, no matter what day or time we play.
Houston's American Conference opener vs. UCF will mark just the fifth time the two programs have met, including last season's tightly contested UCF 19-14 win in Orlando. The Knights would go on to finish the season 12-1, defeating Big 12 champion Baylor in the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.
Houston and Grambling State have met just once prior to 2014, a 42-22 Houston win on Sept. 16, 2006.
Three other Houston game times have previously been announced by The American - the Houston Football Stadium opener vs. UTSA on Friday, Aug. 29 (8 p.m.), Houston's first road trip of 2014 at BYU on Thursday, Sept. 11 (8 p.m.) and Friday, Oct. 17, vs. Temple (8 p.m.).
The three games will be televised on ESPNU, ESPN and ESPNU, respectively.
There will be no more announcement of TV selections and kickoff times until 12-day selection windows begin after the first two weeks of play are completed with the picks for week four including Houston's Sept. 20 home game vs. UNLV.
