2010 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List


HOUSTON - University of Houston junior linebacker Marcus McGraw was one of 74 players named to the 2010 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List on Monday.

A product of Arlington's Bowie High, McGraw has been a consistent performer for the Cougars during each of his first two seasons. As a sophomore in 2009, he led the team with 156 tackles, including 75 solo stops and added four sacks with three forced fumbles.

He finished with a career-high 23 tackles against Air Force during the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl and added a season-high three tackles for a loss at Conference USA-rival UCF.

As a freshman, he topped all Cougar defenders with 103 tackles and enjoyed four games with double-digit tackles.


ABOUT THE BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists on Nov. 18.

The annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet will be held Dec. 6 at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C. In addition to celebrating the 2010 winner, the banquet also will celebrate the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Legends Award, presented by CSX Intermodal. Defensive tackle Mike McCoy, a standout for Notre Dame, will be honored from the FWAA's 1969 All-America Team.


FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS
McGraw and his Cougar teammates open the 2010 season when they play host to Texas State at 7 p.m., Sept. 4, on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. It will be the first of six home games for the Cougars.
