HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team got back to business as usual at practice on Wednesday, working out on the UH Practice Fields for more than two and a half hours in shoulder pads for the first time this summer.

A day after the rain and wind of Tropical Storm Edouard swept threw Houston, the Cougars were back outside practicing in unseasonably temperate weather.

"The storm passed through and left a nice breeze, it felt great out here," head coach Kevin Sumlin said. "We had to get used to the first day of shoulder pads today and we'll be a little better tomorrow and get ready for the first day of pads on Friday. It's just great to get back outside"

The rain left the field soggy, but overall the conditions did little to hamper the practice.

"It was a little sloppier, the field was still a bit wet from yesterday," Sumlin said. The guys were moving around a little bit differently back outside. But all in all, it was a good practice. We took full advantage of being able to move back outside."

The Cougars will be back out on the UH Practice Fields on Thursday with workouts scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday also will be Media Day for the Cougars. For more information on Media Day, log on to UHCougars.com
