Watch Highlights of the First Week of Practice Watch

HOUSTON, Texas - With the summer sun beating down on the Carl Lewis International Track and Field Complex, the University of Houston wrapped up its first week of fall camp with a two-hour-plus practice in full pads.

The Cougars spent the majority of the time during the afternoon workout working individual drills on offense, defense and special teams, then concluding the day's work with team and red-zone drills. UH head coach Kevin Sumlin, as he has said since camp officially opened on Sunday, wants to see which of his players are elevating their play.

"Early in the week some guys are different than when we get pads on," Sumlin added. "You're hoping for certain things to happen when the pads are on. You hope for some guys to have changed. Some of them do and some of them don't.

"You come through summertime and some their bodies change, and they become more physical and grow up, and some guys when the pads come on, and as they say the dogs start barking, some of them go back in the house.

"Some guys stay outside and some guys stay in the house."

The day began for the Cougars with an early morning workout in light pads and culminated with their second day of full pads. Houston will take tomorrow off for its annual Fan Appreciation Day before returning to the practice fields on Monday afternoon.

Fan Appreciation Day is from 11 am until 3 pm in the Yeoman Field House and is open to the public.
