Cougars Conclude First Day of Full Squad Workouts
HOUSTON, Texas (August 10) - With the Cougar veterans all reporting, the
University of Houston conducted its first practice as a full squad in
preparation for the 2000 season.
So far Dimel is enjoyed what he is seeing. "Most of these guys worked extremely hard this off season," said Dimel. "They are in good shape and are ready for the season to begin. (The first practice) is a culmination of what we all have been working and waiting for for the past seven months." The Cougar veterans led by quarterback Jason McKinley, wide receiver Orlando Iglesias and linebacker Wayne Rogers-all seniors-officially arrived on campus on Tuesday. The returnees were issued their equipment, given their physicals and tested for condition and strength before meeting as an entire squad. Houston had yesterday off for Media and Picture Day. UH continues its two-a-days through Tuesday, August 15. The Cougars are slated for an early morning scrimmage at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16. The Cougars kickoff the season in the annual Southwestern Bell Bayou Bucket clash with Rice on September 2, at Rice Stadium. Tickets for the game are still available.
