Fans Catch First Glimpse of Cougars on Saturday
Aug. 13, 2011
21 DAYS to KICKOFF
HOUSTON - University of Houston football fans took in the first scrimmage of the preseason Saturday afternoon at Robertson Stadium, and enjoyed Fan Appreciation Day immediately following at Athletic/Alumni Center Yeoman Fieldhouse.
The scrimmage, which lasted for more than an hour, began with a bang, as senior quarterback Case Keenum picked up where he left off with a 65-yard touchdown strike to fellow senior Patrick Edwards on the first actual play from scrimmage.
Piland would go on to toss touchdown strikes to freshman receiver Mark Roberts and sophomore tight end Kenneth Bibbins Jr.
Piland lobbed a nine-yard touchdown pass over two defenders while under pressure to Roberts in the back of the end zone, while Bibbins made a fingertip grab in the corner of the end zone on a three-yard strike.
Senior running back Michael Hayes added a two-yard touchdown on the ground, while Welford added his second score on a nine-yard scamper after junior receiver Gino Collins made a leaping 36-yard grab from Cotton Turner.
The Cougars also worked on goal line situations with the lone score coming when Keenum once again found Edwards for a five-yard score.
Following the scrimmage, fans interacted with and received autographs from student-athletes and coaches. Several activities were also there to entertain children, including face painting and a bounce house.
Another option for Cougar fans that can save money off the per-game cost is purchasing mini-plans. Purchasers have two options -- the UCLA Mini-Plan and the Rice Mini-Plan -- when choosing and will receive the same great seats for all three games. Packages including the UCLA game are $99 for reserved seats and $149 for Priority East (Cougar Pride) seats. The second option, which includes Rice costs just $90 for reserved and $140 for Priority East.
The UCLA three-game pack includes either the Georgia State or Marshall games and your choice of the third game from contests vs. Rice, East Carolina or SMU. The Rice Mini-Plan gives you either the Georgia State or Marshall games with the second choice between East Carolina or SMU.
