Interview with Case Keenum Watch

HOUSTON--The University of Houston football team continued with two-a-day practice on Monday to prepare for their first match up of the season.

Head coach Kevin Sumlin announced Sunday that sophomore Case Keenum would be the starting quarterback for the 2008 season. Keenum continued with his consitency and leadership on the field at practice.

"It was a good decision to put Keenum in the starting position, and it is his job to keep. He came out today and showed great leadership. They understand that unfortunately there is only one guy to play at that position," Sumlin said.

The Cougars will continue with their two-a-day practice until the end of the week and prepare next week for their first game.

"We had two practices today, which we needed. We are still learning and as we start to get better chemistry on offense and defense we will get a little better. I am concerned about tempo in which we are practicing and assignments," Sumlin said.

The Cougars will be back at practice Tuesday and may have to move practice inside because of rain in the forecast.

Houston is hosting a press conference Wednesday for the first game. Houston and Southern will gather at the Grooves Restaurant and Lounge between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for a press conference opened to the public.

UH will play host for the first-ever match up against Southern Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at Robertson Stadium.
