Special Teams Working Out for Cougars
HOUSTON, Texas -- For the second time during preseason drills the University of Houston Cougars scrimmaged at John O'Quinn Field and Robertson Stadium, and UH head coach Dana Dimel was pleased with his team's results after the morning workout today.
Dimel put his Cougars through a rigorous practice in the heat and humidity, and the squad responded with a spirited and vigorous scrimmage for almost two hours. Working on all facets of the game, Dimel was extremely delighted the special teams seem to be working out their kinks.
"I thought we really worked our kicking game hard today," commented Dimel. "If there was anything we weren't ahead of schedule was the kicking game, and even after the scrimmage today we need to improve that area of our team. But we have come a long way in just a few weeks in that area.
"We had some really good situational workouts, which was very pleasing. We put our teams in different situations I think we needed in order to get ready for the season.
"With (the season opener versus Rice) just two weeks away, I am real pleased with the progress of our ball club. We've had two really good scrimmages this week, and now we can evaluate on full speed reps what our football team needs to work with."
Dimel gave his squad this afternoon off, and the Cougars have another day of rest tomorrow before settling in to the normalcy of a season. School starts on Monday, August 21, and UH will begin their normal routine at this point.
The Cougars next practice on Monday afternoon beginning at 4:30 p.m.
