Football Nears End of Training Camp
Aug. 19, 2009
HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team continued to move toward the end of training camp with a pair of impressive workouts Wednesday at the UH practice fields. After a morning workout, the Cougars returned to the field in the afternoon under milder temperatures in the 80s for a two-hour practice. Grey skies seemed ready to dampen the effort at the start of practice, but the wet weather held off and gave way to a surprisingly pleasant evening. While the cooler temperatures were a comfort to the Cougar coaches and support staff, it had minimal affect on the players, who have become accustomed a typical Houston summer with triple-digit temperatures and sweltering humidity. "These guys have done a good job with (strength and conditioning) coach (Larry) Jackson," said head coach Kevin Sumlin, who enters his second season at UH. "These guys are in tremendous shape, because they've been conditioning all summer." The Cougars are nearing the end of their 2009 training camp. The team has been practicing together since Aug. 7, but with the start of classes on Monday, will move into its regular game-week schedule.
Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, David Klingler providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sidelines. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
