HOUSTON Houston sophomore receiver Deontay Greenberry was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List announced Wednesday at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce East Texas Kickoff Luncheon.

The sophomore led all UH returners with 47 receptions for 569 yards and three touchdowns in 2012 en route to being named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. Greenberry’s 47 receptions and 569 receiving yards led the league’s freshmen while his three touchdowns were second to just teammate Larry McDuffey’s four TD receptions.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in FBS football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

The Watch List announced Wednesday will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to four finalists in December. Finalists will attend The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards Banquet in Tyler, Texas on January 10, 2014.
