HOUSTON - The University of Houston Department of Athletics today announced it was moving the kickoff time to 6 pm CDT for the Sept. 5 contest versus Northwestern State on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The game originally was scheduled to start at 4 pm CDT.

"We made this change in the best interests of all with the intent of attracting a great home-opening crowd for a team that won its first bowl game in 28 years," UH Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades said. "We want this game, and all the events surrounding it, to be more convenient for everyone, including our team, the coaches, fans, alumni and our opponent, Northwestern State.

"In the future we will always balance television exposure, convenience for fans and competitive advantage in determining future kickoff times."

Last season, the Cougars kicked off the 2008 campaign against Southern with a 6 pm start at Robertson Stadium.
