HOUSTON--The University of Houston football team practiced at Robertson Stadium for the first part of practice, until rain moved them inside the Yeoman Field House.

The Cougars worked out in pads and shorts on the field of Robertson with game-like scenarios and used Thursday's practice to focus on getting ready for the game.

"Thursday practices will always be the same, polishing up defense and offense and reviewing special teams, mostly in team situations," head coach Kevin Sumlin said.

The excitement levels are beginning to show among the team, as they are just two days from kick-off.

The Cougars open their 2008 season at 6 p.m., Saturday, when they play host to Southern in the Cougar Football Classic on John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. It will be the first meeting between these two teams on the gridiron.

"Everybody is tired of practicing against each other and there is some anxiety because we all haven't been together as a group and each team is different. We are looking forward to Saturday night playing against someone else," Sumlin said.

Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, David Klingler and Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sidelines. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.
