Leone Named American Special Teams Player of the Week

HOUSTON – Houston’s Richie Leone was named The American Athletic Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week the league announced Monday. The senior, who is already one of the nation’s top punters, added placekicking to his resume Friday night as well in Houston’s 62-13 win over Southern.
Leone scored the first points of his career Friday as he hit two field goals and six extra points while also averaging 47 yards per punt on four attempts. The Roswell, Ga., native placed three of his four punts inside Southern’s 20-yard line and contributed to the Jaguars returning just two punts for a loss of nine yards.
Leone also hit eight kickoffs on the night with an average of 64 yards per boot with three resulting in touchbacks.
Leone and the rest of the Houston team return to action on Saturday as they travel to Philadelphia to take on Temple in the first American Athletic Conference game.
