Greenberry Named American Offensive Player of the Week

HOUSTON – Houston’s Deontay Greenberry was named The American Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced Monday morning. The sophomore wide receiver helped the Cougars to the first ever American Conference win as Houston (2-0, 1-0) topped Temple (0-2, 0-1) 22-13 on Saturday afternoon.
Greenberry hauled in 14 catches and 165 yards to set career highs in both categories. The 14 receptions mark the second-best single-game NCAA total this season. The two totals also mark single-game highs among all American Athletic Conference players in the season’s first two weeks.
Ten of Greenberry’s 14 catches Saturday converted first downs and he extended another series for the Cougars by drawing a pass interference penalty.
The Fresno, Calif., native ranks fourth nationally in receptions (10.0 rpg) through the first two games of the year.
Through two weeks of action, Greenberry has 20 receptions for 235 yards and one touchdown after totaling 47 receptions and 569 yards with three touchdowns in 12 games in 2012.
Greenberry and the Cougars are off this week before facing Rice in the Bayou Bucket at Reliant Stadium on Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.
