Sept. 10, 2009
GAME 2
RADIO: Houston-ISP Sports Radio Network 790 AM The Sports Animal-Houston Tom Franklin, PxP; Ted Pardee, analyst; Chuck Brown, sideline
GAME NOTES:
This marks the second straight season that the Cougars will face a nationally ranked opponent. A year ago, the Cougars knocked off No. 23 East Carolina on the road and dominated No. 25 Tulsa 70-30 in Houston. It was the first time since 1984 that the Cougars defeated multiple ranked teams in the same season. The Cowboys will be the Cougars' highest ranked opponent since UH fell at No. 2 Oklahoma in 2004. Ironically, UH head coach Kevin Sumlin was a member of that Sooner coaching staff.
Junior quarterback Case Keenum led the way, throwing for 359 yards and four touchdowns in just more than a half of action. The Abilene, Texas, native and reserve Cotton Turner completed passes to 14 different receivers with freshman running back Charles Sims leading the way with six catches for 128 yards and a touchdown. Sims became only the sixth player in school history to record at least 100 receiving yards in his Cougar debut, while his yardage total was the fourth-highest single-game mark by a Cougar rookie. Sophomore running back Bryce Beall led the Cougar rushing attack with 58 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Defensively, freshman Phillip Steward led the Cougars with 13 tackles while senior Tyrell Graham added six tackles, including 1.5 for a loss of 17 yards.
Senior quarterback Zac Robinson leads the Cowboys after throwing for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior running back Kendall Hunter leads OSU with four receptions, while junior wide receiver Dez Bryant added three catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Hunter paced the Cowboys with 75 rushing yards on 23 carries. Defensively, senior free safety Lucien Antoine topped OSU with seven tackles, while senior cornerback Perrish Cox recorded four tackles and broke up four passes. Junior nose tackle Shane Jarka also added three stops, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of six yards.
In addition, the game will be televised by Fox Sports with Bill Land calling the play-by-play action, Gary Reasons providing analysis and Emily Jones on the sideline. Fans should consult their local listings for the Fox Sports channel in their area.
Oklahoma State has won two of the last three games, including a 56-37 win on Sept. 6, 2008, in the last meeting in Stillwater, Okla. A year ago, the crowd of 45,001 at Boone Pickens Stadium was the largest to watch the Cougars and Cowboys compete on the gridiron. Oklahoma State owns a 5-4 lead in the all-time series in Oklahoma and has won five of the last six games at home.
