Sept. 17, 2007
HOUSTON - As the University of Houston football team prepares for its home opener on Sept. 22 against Colorado State, the Athletics Department would like to update Cougar fans on the various promotions and events being held throughout the season at Robertson Stadium.
Champions Day will highlight the 2007 home opener on Sept. 22 against Colorado State. The University will honor Cougar champions from the past year such as Ebonie Floyd, an NCAA All-American, and members of the 2006 Football Championship team. Championship Rally towels from ICON Information Consultants will be handed out to the first 10,000 fans.
The second annual All UH Day will take place against ECU on Sept. 29. Free admission is being offered to all UH System students and half-price tickets are available for UH System faculty and staff. The ECU match-up will also be Family Weekend and Greek Night. Special ticket prices will be available to family members of UH students and the largest Greek organization in attendance will win a prize courtesy of Cougar Athletics.
When the Cougars face Rice on Oct. 13, it will be all about the fans. This year's Fan Fest will feature a day of fun and entertainment for the entire Cougar family with attractions such as face painting and inflatable games. There will also be a "Best Fans" competition between UH student organizations.
As part of Red Rage 2007, all UH fans are encouraged to wear red when Houston takes on SMU in a nationally televised game. Red Rage shirts will be available for the first 1,000 fans courtesy of State Farm and the first 10,000 fans will get a pair of red thundersticks from Dahill Industries. Halftime will feature a performance by Cheerleaders of America and youth cheerleaders from the Houston area.
Homecoming is set for Nov. 17 against Marshall. This year's theme is "Roarin' 07" and it will be a celebration of the University's 80th Anniversary. Former Cougar All-Americans will be honored during the game and fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items to be collected throughout the season as part of the Thanks-for-Giving Campaign which will be donated to the Star of Hope Mission.
The second annual Cougar Football Classic will conclude the 2007 home schedule. It will be the first ever meeting between the Houston Cougars and the Texas Southern Tigers. A Greek Step show will be held prior to the game and fans are encouraged to attend the men's basketball game against Grambling State following the football game at 8 pm.
