Williams picked off SMU quarterback Ben Hicks on the Mustangs’ final two drives, at his own 1-yard line and on his own 6-yard line.
SMU was forced to use all three of its timeouts to stop the clock on the drive following Williams’ first interception. His second interception was followed by Duke Catalon picking up 14 rushing yards on three attempts and Houston taking a snap in the victory formation as it ran off the final 2:41 of the game.
In addition to his two interceptions, Williams added five tackles and one pass breakup as the Houston defense held SMU, who entered the game No. 3 nationally in scoring offense, to over 26.2 points below its scoring average.
Williams is the third member of the #HTownTakeover to receive a weekly honor from The American following Ed Oliver (Defensive Player of the Week - Sept. 11) and Dane Roy (Special Teams Player of the Week - Sept. 18).
Houston returns to action this Saturday at 3 p.m. when it travels to Tulsa. The game will air on ESPNews with radio coverage kicking off at 2 p.m. on KPRC 950 AM.
