HOUSTON -Houston’s John O’Korn was named one of eight Stars of the Week by the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, on Monday. The true freshman received the honor after helping lead Houston to a 49-14 American Athletic Conference win at Rutgers Saturday.

Fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. CST, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Player of the Week.

O’Korn connected on 80 percent of his passes (24-of-30) for a career-high 364 yards and a career high five touchdowns in the UH win.

O’Korn now has at least three passing touchdowns in five games this season and leads all true freshmen nationally with 19 passing touchdowns and in passing efficiency with a rating of 159.0. O’Korn’s 19 touchdowns in seven games is second in The American behind the 23 thrown by Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater in eight games. He has eclipsed the 300-yard mark in three game this season.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.

O’Korn and the rest of the Cougars return to action Thursday night at 6 p.m. as they host USF at Reliant Stadium in a game that will be nationally televised on ESPN.

The Houston program unveiled alternate black uniforms for the Halloween game Sunday evening, one of several promotions planned for the game that also include costume contests, trick-or-treating, Halloween inflatables and student contests.

For Houston fans in eighth grade or below, a Halloween Costume Contest will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in the UH Athletics KidZone, located behind section 140 in Reliant Stadium, with the top five finalists invited to the field for recognition on the Reliant Stadium video board. Winners of the contest will receive gift cards to Barnes and Noble.
Trick-or-treating for Houston's younger fans will also be available in the KidZone, and an inflatable Halloween maze will be located for Houston fans on the stadium's east side near the Amegy Bank Gate.

University of Houston students, who receive free admission to the game, will have an opportunity to win a number of prizes throughout the game including Beats by Dre headphones, $100 Visa Gift Cards, Apple TVs, iPad minis and $1,000 to their organization.

The first 1,000 students in attendance will receive a free gameday t-shirt while all students in attendance can sign up for a chance to win Beats by Dre headphones (one winner), $100 Visa Gift Card (two winners), Apple TV (three winners) or an iPad mini (one winner). To enter to win, students must sign up inside the student entrance at the BHP Billiton Gate and have a valid UH student ID.

The student section will also feature a $1,000 challenge for Greek organizations and for residence halls. For the Resident Life Challenge, the dorm with the highest attendance percentage, measured by the percent of residents who attend the game and sign in at the student entrance, will be awarded $1,000.

A total of $1,000 will be awarded to the winners of Thursday night's Greek Challenge with $850 going to the winning Greek organization with 25 or more members and $250 awarded to the winning Greek organization with less than 25 members.

Greek challenge winners will be determined by highest attendance percentage and social media impact. The highest attendance percentage will be measured by the percent of an organization's members who attend the game and sign in at the student entrance at the BHP Billiton gate. Students must be signed in by halftime to count towards their organization's total.

Social media impact will be measured by the following:
Twitter: use of @UHCougarSports and #FootballFrightNight.
Facebook: likes and shares of football-related and event-related posts.
Instagram: likes and use of #FootballFrightNight.

Social media engagement from both personal and organization accounts qualify and competitors are asked to include their organization's name or letters if posting from a personal account to receive credit for their organization.
