Keenum is One of Four Nominees for National Player of the Week Award
Nov. 1, 2009
HOUSTON - University of Houston junior quarterback Case Keenum is one of four nominees for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week award, and the support of Cougar fans can be the difference. Fans can text message "VOTE" to 345345 on their wireless phones to opt in for the chance to vote. Fans have until 10:59 p.m., Wednesday to submit their votes, and standard text messaging rates apply. The winner will be announced during Thursday's ESPN College Football Primetime Presented by Applebee's. Keenum threw for a career-high 559 yards and five touchdowns on 44-of-54 passing in the Cougars' thrilling 50-43 win against Conference USA-rival Southern Miss on Saturday at Robertson Stadium. His 28-yard touchdown strike to Patrick Edwards with only 21 seconds remaining in the game broke the tie for good and was the fourth comeback he led during his career in which Houston was tied or trailed in the final minute. The Abilene, Texas, native was 5-for-5 for 77 yards on the Cougars' game-winning drive, leading the offense down the field in only 36 seconds. This season, Keenum has posted 3,293 yards and 25 touchdowns with only five interceptions to lead the nation in both passing yards and total offense per game. Rutgers wide receiver Tim Brown, Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer and Temple running back Bernard Pierce were the other nominees. The group was selected by a panel of ESPN analysts as this week's top candidates.
The Cougars return to the friendly confines of John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium at noon, Nov. 21, when they play to Conference USA-rival Memphis.
