Houston Coach and Staff Receiving Accolades

The University Of Houston has announced that head coach Kevin Sumlin is a semifinalist for the George Munger College Coach of the Year. The award is named for former University of Pennsylvania coach George Munger. His devotion to ethics in athletics, and his commitment to education is the standard for which all college coaches should strive. Voters for the Maxwell College Awards are NCAA Head College Football Coaches, members of the Maxwell Football Club & sportswriters and sportscasters from across the country. Semifinalists for the 21st George Munger Award: Mack Brown, University of Texas Sumlin has guided the Cougars to a 7-1 record this season and has led the Cougars to their second best start after eight games in Houston history. Sumlin's offense ranks first in the nation per game in total offense (563.3), passing yards (422.6) and first downs (31.9) while the scoring offense ranks second (41.6). FootballScoop Game Changing Coaches presented by Adidas The University Of Houston announced that the offensive coaching unit has been honored as a FootballScoop Game Changing staff. This is the 2nd year of the award winning in-season weekly installment of the FootballScoop Game Changing Coaches presented by Adidas. FootballScoop recognizes several of the outstanding coaching performances from the past week.This is the second time the Houston offensive staff has been honored by FootballScoop this season.
Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, co-offensive coordinator Jason Phillips, special teams coordinator/insider receivers coach Tony Levine, offensive line coach B.J. Anderson, runningbacks coach Clarence McKinney, Offensive Graduate Assisstant Jake Spavital and offensive quality control assistant Kliff Kingsburry were the recipients of the award for their outstanding efforts in Houston's 50-43 victory against Southern Miss. The Cougars accumulated 750 yards of total offense in the game, which is good for the second most in a single-game this season. The Cougars also totaled 39 first downs which is also good for the second-highest mark of the season. |
