FORTH WALTON BEACH, Fla.--The Wuerffel Trophy announced Thursday the nominees, which included sophomore Case Keenum for the 2008 Wuerffel Trophy, presented by All Sports Association of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Keenum is only one of two sophomores nominated for the award. The other is Jimmy Clausen from Notre Dame.

In order to qualify for this significant award, nominees must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be a first team player and major contributor.

The award also includes dedication to community service with consistence and sustained participation.

Last season, the award was given to Tulsa's quarterback Paul Smith.

The award is named after Danny Wuerffel, a Heisman trophy winner, along with the Draddy award. He also set 17 NCAA and University of Florida records. He graduated with a degree in public relations.

Wuerffel played for the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins.

In 2004, he retired form professional football to work with Desire Street Ministries, a faith-based, non-profit organization. He is now the executive director of the organization and has written one called "Danny Wuerffel's Tales from the Gator Swamp: Reflections of Faith and Football."

Keenum was nominated for this trophy because of his excellence in the classroom as well as on the field.

This season, Keenum has an average of 397.1 total offensive yards per game. He has also been responsible for 25 touchdowns.
