TULSA, Okla. - The University of Houston football team returns to action this weekend when it meets Conference USA-rival Tulsa in a key league matchup. Houston meets the Golden Hurricane at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

With their win against Southern Miss and UTEP's loss to UAB last weekend, the Cougars moved into a tie with SMU atop the C-USA West Division standings. Tulsa and UTEP stand a game back at 2-2.

The Cougars (7-1 • 3-1 C-USA West) enter this weekend's game on the heels of a thrilling 50-43 win against Conference USA-rival Southern Miss last weekend at Robertson Stadium. After the Golden Eagles tied the game at 43-43 with 57 seconds left, junior quarterback Case Keenum led the Cougars on a 77-yard drive that was capped by sophomore wide receiver Patrick Edwards' 28-yard touchdown with 21 seconds remaining.

This season Keenum leads the Cougars and the nation with 3,293 yards and 25 touchdowns on 285-of-398 passing. After throwing for a career-high 559 yards and five touchdowns against the Golden Eagles last weekend, the Abilene, Texas, native was honored earlier as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week.

It was the seventh time during his career that he won that honor.

Junior wideout James Cleveland leads six receivers with at least 20 catches, posting 62 catches for 686 yards and eight touchdowns. Sophomore Tyron Carrier ranks second among the Cougars with 53 catches for 599 yards and four touchdowns, while Edwards is third with 51 receptions for 564 yards and three touchdowns.

On the ground, sophomore running back Bryce Beall continues to lead the team with 513 yards and six touchdowns on 109 carries. Freshman Charles Sims ranks second with 347 yards on 61 attempts and four scores and leads the team with 5.7 yards per carry.

Defensively, the Cougars boast two of the nation's leading tacklers in sophomore linebacker Marcus McGraw and senior linebacker C.J. Cavness. The duo has combined for 167 tackles with 4.5 sacks, nine pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles between them.

Cornerbacks Jamal Robinson and Brandon Brinkley top the secondary with two interceptions apiece.
