HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team will compete in its biggest game of the 2007 season this weekend when it faces Conference USA rival Tulsa at 2 p.m., Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Okla.

The game features the top two teams in the C-USA West Division. With the 5-1 record in league play, the Cougars stand a game ahead of the Golden Hurricane.

A win gives the Cougars their second straight C-USA West Division championship and a berth in the C-USA Championship Game on Dec. 1 with the site to be determined. A loss puts the two teams into a tie with Tulsa owning the tiebreaker.

Fans can hear the game live on 790 AM The Sports Animal with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action, Ted Pardee providing color analysis and Chuck Brown reporting from the sideline. The pregame show is slated to begin one hour before kickoff.

The Cougars come into this weekend's game after enjoying a 38-28 win over SMU in front of a national television audience Sunday on ESPN. In that game, senior running back Anthony Alridge rushed for 154 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while senior wide receiver Donnie Avery recorded 10 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Both players have moved over 1,000 yards in their respective yardage categories to date this season and should rise higher in the Cougar records book with at least three regular-season games remaining on the docket.

This season, Alridge has posted 1,217 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground, while Avery leads the aerial assault with 66 catches for 1,097 yards and six touchdowns.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Case Keenum has posted a team-best 1,424 yards and 10 touchdowns on 120-of-179 passing.

This marks the third straight season that the Cougars will face Tulsa on the gridiron. The Cougars own a 17-15 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1950 and has been played every season since 2005.

The Cougars look to extend their two-game winning streak over Tulsa.

Tulsa owns an 8-6 lead in the all-time series at home and has won three of the last four games against the Cougars in Oklahoma. However, the Cougars can boast of the most recent success there after walking away with a 30-23 win on Oct. 1, 2005.

Senior quarterback Paul Smith leads the Tulsa offense with 3,183 yards and 27 touchdowns on 213-of-345 passing. Freshman wide receiver Trae Johnson is one of seven Golden Hurricane receivers with at least 20 catches and tops Tulsa with 47 catches for 736 yards and seven touchdowns.

Junior running back Tarrion Adams paces the Tulsa rushing attack with 783 yards and four touchdowns on 138 carries. Smith leads all backs with nine rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, senior linebacker Chris Chamberlain leads Tulsa with 99 tackles, while senior linebacker Alain Karatepeyan is tops with 11.5 tackles for a loss, including four sacks. Junior linebacker Roy Roberts has added a team-best three interceptions this season.
