Cougars Fall To East Carolina, 62-20
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP)(Nov. 11) - Leonard Henry ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns and David Garrard threw three TD passes as East Carolina beat Houston 62-20 on Nov. 11. East Carolina (6-3, 4-2 Conference USA) led 38-0 after its most productive first half since 1991. Houston (3-7, 2-4) had 99 yards of total offense in the half and was penalized for 84 yards. East Carolina's special teams started the rout, with John Williamson blocking Mike Clark's 26-yard field-goal attempt. With 4:26 remaining in the first quarter, Keith Stokes returned Clark's punt 59 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead. Stokes finished with 168 yards on punt return, breaking school and conference records. Garrard chipped in with a 69-yard touchdown pass from David Garrard to Marcellus Harris, overcoming rushing problems that saw the Pirates lose 23 yards on the ground in the first quarter. A leaping catch from Terrance Copper from Garrard five minutes into the second quarter gave East Carolina a 21-0 edge. Garrard finished 12-of-27 for 183 yards. Garrard scored on a 16-yard run in the second quarter, and Henry had a 9-yard TD run with six minutes left in the half. Houston's Bubba Teague threw three TD pass in the fourth quarter. Teague hit Shawn Broadus on a 40-yard catch-and-run play early in the quarterm and added scoring strikes of 6 yards to Brian Robinson and 18 yards to Mark Hopkins.
Teague finished 14-of-28 for 224 yards and one interception.
