COUGAR FOOTBALL QUOTES
November 14, 2000 Press Luncheon
QB JASON McKINLEY
On the final game of his collegiate career this weekend
"It's going to be the last time I put on the red and white, the last time I play at Robertson ...
it's been five great years and I can't believe it flew by so quickly. There will be a lot of
emotion. I just hope we can go out there and win."
On his selection of being invited to play in the Blue Gray Classic Game
"I was real excited about it and I've been blessed to be invited to the game. It will be fun
to spend Christmas there and do that whole thing."
LB WAYNE ROGERS
On winning this Saturday, his final game for the Cougars
"When you're still on the team going into the off-season, that last win means a lot to you. I
want to win this game not only for the seniors, but for the guys who are still on this team.
When you go into the off-season, winning that last game means a lot to you and gives you a
little more positive effect on the off-season program."
On certain players not being committed to the team both on and off the field
"To a point, yes, there were certain guys on the team who really don't push themselves like
you need to have guys to push themselves to have a winning program. I think that's what
coach Dimel is looking at and what he wants to eliminate from this program."
Summing up this season
"From a player's standpoint, I would say that we almost got over the hump and were very close
to having a good year. For some reason, I don't know what it is, when you have a new coach I
think that transaction period takes a lot.
"One of the big things for us, and some of the seniors have been talking, is this program
is really on its way up, it really is. You can see that from a players' standpoint. Players
on this team compare this to South Carolina and Lou Holtz. The first year he came in, he's a
great coach but he didn't win a single game. And this program is definitely on its way up and
I think in another two or three years I will be able to say I was here and helped build or
started what is going to happen in the future."
