Nov. 15, 2009 Bowl Championship Standings (Nov. 15, 2009) | Rankings
The Cougars (8-2 * 4-2 C-USA West) fell to No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, racking up 212 points to rank behind No. 21 USC and ahead of No. 23 Utah. In the latest Associated Press poll, the Cougars dropped to No. 24 with 149 points, behind No. 23 Utah and ahead of No. 25 Rutgers. This also marked the eighth week that the Cougars have been ranked during the 2009 regular season, the most since 1990. The Cougars stood at No. 24 in the latest BCS standings with an average of .1150. Houston stood behind No. 23 Clemson and ahead of No. 25 California.
However, it would not be enough as the Cougars saw their season-best five-game winning streak end. With the loss, Houston fell into second place in the C-USA West Division, one game behind SMU, which stood at 5-1 in league play. The Mustangs close out their regular season at Marshall (3:30 p.m., Nov. 21) and against Tulane (2 p.m., Nov. 28). The Cougars claimed a 38-15 win against SMU in Houston on Oct. 24.
From there, the team plays host to league- and crosstown-rival Rice at 7 p.m., Nov. 28, at Robertson Stadium

The computer rankings percentage is calculated by dropping the highest and lowest ranking for each team and then dividing the remaining total by 100 (the maximum possible points). The BCS Average is calculated by averaging the percentage totals of the Harris Interactive Poll, USA Today Poll and computer rankings. The team's BCS Averages are ranked to produce the BCS Standings. The six computer ranking providers are Anderson & Hester, Richard Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, Jeff Sagarin and Peter Wolfe. Each computer ranking provider accounts for schedule strength within its formula.
