Houston Adds Future Series with Boise State, BYU

Nov. 30, 2017

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Department of Athletics announced Thursday future non-conference Football series with Boise State and BYU.

The two series will kick off on Oct. 17, 2020, when Houston travels to Provo, Utah, to face BYU. The all-Cougar matchup will return to Houston on Oct. 7, 2023.

Two of the nation’s top 20 winningest programs over the last 10 years, Houston and Boise State will then stage a season-opening showdown in Houston on Sept. 4, 2021, before returning the trip to Boise on Sept. 7, 2024.

The 2020 meeting with BYU will mark the third meeting between the two programs with BYU claiming wins in the previous two meetings, a 47-46 2013 win in Houston and a 33-25 2014 win in Provo.

Houston and Boise State have never previously met.

In addition to the two series, Houston also announced date changes for three previously scheduled non-conference games. Houston’s home game versus North Texas, originally scheduled for Sept. 23, 2023, will slide up to Sept. 26, 2020.

In addition, Houston’s series with Georgia Southern, originally scheduled for 2020-21, has moved back to Sept. 26, 2026 (at Georgia Southern), and Sept. 18, 2027 (at Houston).

Houston also announced a 2018 home game vs. Texas Southern that will take place on Sept. 29, 2018, at TDECU Stadium. The one-game agreement was established during negotiations between the two schools that allowed the Houston Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs to utilize TSU’s H&PE Arena for the 2017-18 season while the Fertitta Center undergoes a $60 million renovation.
