Football's Jake Ebner Honored With C-USA Spirit of Service Award

IRVING, Texas--University of Houston senior defensive tackle Jake Ebner was announced as one of 12 Conference USA student-athletes to be honored with the C-USA Spirit of Service Award, as announced by the conference office Thursday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes.
Ebner, an active FCA member, exemplifies a role model and demonstrates a man of the community.
Ebner has volunteered at Texas Children's Hospital, where he signed autographs and spoke to the children. He is also a volunteer for Friendswood United Methodist Church for Vacation Bible School, summer mission trips and a guest speaker for the Friendswood School Spirit Day.
He has assisted with fundraising efforts to purchase gifts for the homeless and disadvantaged youths as a SAAC Holiday service project.
The Friendswood, Texas, native has also received many honors for his academics. He was named to the 2008 C-USA All-Academic Team and twice named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team (2007-08).
Ebner and the rest of the Cougars return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 31, when they square off in a rematch with Air Force in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. Kickoff at Amon G. Carter Stadium on the TCU campus is slated for 11 a.m. and will be televised live by ESPN.
