Dec. 21, 2008

Houston, Texas - University of Houston senior defensive end Phillip Hunt was named a Fourth-Team, All-America as it was announced by Phil Steele Publications.

The reigning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, Hunt had a banner senior campaign in which he led the league in sacks (12) and is third in the league in tackles for loss with 16.5. Hunt has posted 40 total tackles, forced a team-high three fumbles (second in C-USA), broke up one pass and blocked a field goal attempt.

Hunt is a two-time All-C-USA First-Teamer, and was the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after recording three sacks in the Cougars' 44-38 win at SMU. He, along with senior tight end Mark Hafner, accepted invitations to take part in the East-West Shrine Game to be held January 17, 2009, at Robertson Stadium.

The Cougars return to action on New Year's Eve, as the Red and White takes part in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl to be held in Fort Worth. The 11 am kickoff against Air Force is a rematch of a September 13 game in which Houston fell to the Falcons, 31-28, in Dallas.
