Houston, Texas - University of Houston Head Coach Tony Levine announced one of the first additions to his coaching staff on Thursday, as Reliant Park Director of Operations and former UH linebacker Chris Pezman has been hired as the program's Assistant Athletics Director for Football Operations.

Well known throughout the city of Houston from his decade tenure with Reliant Park, Pezman lettered three seasons for the Cougars (90-92) and served as the team's captain during the 1992 campaign. The Laguna Beach, Calif., native finished with 51 tackles over his final three years and was a standout on special teams.

Pezman quickly rose up the ranks during his time with SMG-Reliant Park. He began as Assistant Director of Operations and was promoted to Director of Outside Operations in 2003, where he maintained oversight of the Parking and Traffic Control, 24-Hour Security, and the site's grounds. In 2005 he became the Director of Operations maintaining several of his previous responsibilities while absorbing the Changeovers/Set-ups, Housekeeping, and Grounds Crew.

"I'm so excited to have Chris back with our program," Levine said. "He has great passion for our university and is exactly the guy I want in our operations role. Chris obviously has great familiarity with our city and Reliant Park, but his attention to detail, his knowledge of college and professional football and of course his background being a former student-athlete here makes this a natural fit for us."

Pezman remained involved with his alma mater following his graduation and earned his Masters degree from UH in 1995. The 41-year-old first served as a graduate assistant coach (1993-94) while earning his postgraduate degree and then served as an assistant to the Director of Athletics for two years. Pezman was elevated to Assistant Athletics Director for Operations, where he was involved with facility scheduling, facility oversight and summer camps before taking on his role with Reliant Park and SMG Management.

"I am thrilled to have this opportunity to return to my alma mater and work with Coach Levine and our football program," Pezman said. "Houston is our home and we have made some tremendous friends and built some great relationships here over the years. Houston Football of course holds a special place in my family's heart, so while it was tough to leave so many great friends at Reliant, I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with our student-athletes and our football program."

In addition to playing with 1989 Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware, Pezman helped lead UH to a 10-1 record in 1990 and won the team's Wilson Whitley "Fighting Heart" Award as a captain in 1992.

The two time Southwest Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member earned his undergraduate degree in Economics and completed course work for his Masters in Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Pezman is married to the former Marisol Guillamondegui and the couple has three wonderful children: Seth (11), Syndney (8) and Sarah (6).

Levine and UH Football will continue with staff announcements near the completion of bowl season.
