  • Sanford, A Doak Walker Award Candidate

    Senior running back Ketric Sanford (Corsicana, Texas) etched his name in the Houston record books this past season with a banner campaign worthy of a star athlete. He was rewarded for his efforts by being named First Team All-Conference USA running back. After setting the school record for rushing attempts late in 1998, Sanford became the school's all-time leader in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and all-purpose yards by eclipsing the records set by Chuck Weatherspoon in the Run-n-Shoot days. He also became the Cougars all-time leading kickoff returner early in the season.

    But Sanford was more than a runner. He was a record-breaking kickoff returner and a triple-threat receiver out of the backfield. Standing only a shade less than 5-8, Sanford consistently proved his doubters wrong by playing with zeal and vigor on every down.
