Competed in four tournaments during the year... Saw action in the first three tournaments of the fall season as well as The Maxwell... Fired a 67 in the final round of the Red River Classic for his season-best score of the year.
PRE-HOUSTON
Appeared in five tournaments, while starting three, during the 2000-01 season at the University of Oklahoma... Finished seventh on the team with a 76.57 scoring average...Fired a season-best 69 at the Red River Classic on the way to a 39th-place finish...In 1999-00, made 11 starts during the season while playing every tournament in the spring… Competed in postseason play for OU… Was one shot away from qualifying to play in rounds three and four of the NCAA Championship…Had a two-round score of 145… Finished tied for 60th at the NCAA Central Regional... Recovered from a second-round 75 to shoot a 65 in the final round at the Red River Classic…Was the team’s lowest round of the year… Named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team for 1999-00… In 1998-99, failed to qualify for any tournaments and redshirted.
HIGH SCHOOL
One of the top junior amateur golfers in the state of Texas…A four-year letterman at McKinney (Texas) High School…Earned Class 4A All-State honors twice, all-district honors three times and all-region twice…Also captured first-team International Junior Golf Association honors…Had six career victories on the junior circuit…Recorded six top-10 finishes on the AJGA tour…Placed third at the 1998 Justin Leonard Championship, fourth at the 1997 West Texas Junior and eighth at the prestigious Rolex Tournament of Champions...Fired rounds of 69, 74, 68, and 77 during the four-round event…Coached by Jerry Crumpton.
PERSONAL
Born on Nov. 27, 1979, in Dallas, Texas... Son of Will and Judy Cureton... Major is finance... Was the youngest qualifier (17 years old) in the 1997 Texas State Open at Southbridge Country Club…His father, Will, was the starting quarterback for the East Texas State University national championship team and played professionally with the Cleveland Browns.
