Golf Tied for 20th at Hawai'i Tournament

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - The University of Houston golf team remained in 20th-place Thursday after the second round of the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate. The Cougars fired a team score of 301 on Thursday and stood 41 strokes behind Georgia Tech on the team leaderboard. UCLA, UC Davis, Washington, Arkansas, Arizona State, USC, Stanford, Pepperdine, TCU, and Commerce Nagoya rounded out the top 11 team leaders. Sophomore co-captain Zach Mowbray remained a bright spot for the Cougars, shooting a 1-under-par 71 Thursday on the 7,074-yard, par-72 Waikoloa Kings' Course. Mowbray was tied for 20th at 1-under-par 43 in the individual standings. Other Cougars competing were Kevin Newman (75-79 - 154, t-92nd), Ricky Romano (80-75 - 155, t-96th), Denton Walker (82-76 - 158, t-101st) and Jordan Hasbrouck (76-85 - 161, 104th). UC Davis' Scott Gordon jumped into first place atop the individual leaderboard after shooting a 66 in the second round and recording a 36-hole total of 136. Hawai'I-Hilo's Nick Mason, Oklahoma's Anthony Kim and Arizona State's Chez Reavie were tied for second, two strokes back at 138. The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Friday morning.
